Toyota's China Assembly Factory Remains Shut After Earthquake
150508, Beijing. Toyota Motor Corp., the world's second-largest automaker, said its factory in China remained shut after the country's biggest earthquake in 58 years struck the area two days ago.
Toyota will today repair cracks on floors in the paint shop and inspect equipment at its Chengdu factory, spokeswoman Kayo Doi said by phone. The company lost production of 120 vehicles so far through yesterday.
The plant, which has the capacity to make 13,000 vehicles a year, makes the Coaster bus and Prado sport-utility vehicle, according to the Toyota City, Japan-based automaker.
Yamaha Motor Co., the world's second-largest motorcycle maker, resumed production at a parts factory in Chengdu this morning, spokesman Takashi Kitagawa said.
The 7.9-magnitude quake has killed more than 15,000 people in Sichuan province.
